Spring is coming fast and with that we all get a little more awakened and energised. With the longer days, sunny weather and new energy in the air we tend to get more active. Think more about our health and be more conscious about our wellbeing.
I’ve been advocate for health for some time now and was perfecting and trying many things to help me with my mental and physical health. In this article I’m going to share my proven methods to how i reach the best possible outcome and felt amazing.
Navigate to where you want to go:
Introduction
First of all, you don’t have to start during springtime, but there’s just something about that season—it feels like a natural time for a cleanse, a reset. Of course, you can begin anytime, and honestly, starting any day is just as amazing.
There are the usual, well-known tips for a mental detox: get more sleep, drink more water, exercise more… You know, all the things that might sound like they only relate to physical health, but in reality, they’re so interconnected with mental health too.
And having a solid routine that includes these practices is fantastic.
But let me tell you about some other strategies—things that, over time, have made a huge difference for my mental health. I’m not going to dive into physical exercise here (even though it’s a big part of my life) because, let’s be real, we all already know that moving your body makes you feel good—it’s those endorphins and all that.
Instead, I want to share a few less obvious game changers for me over the past year. And the biggest one?
Mean Morning Ritual
What I mean by this is a strong ritual—something you do daily—that makes you feel good and mentally prepared for the day ahead. For me, this routine sets the tone for everything: your mood, your mental and physical well-being, and your overall mindset.
Here’s how mine looks:
I wake up at 6 AM and either do yoga and meditation if I’m staying at home, or I hit the gym before work. If I’m at home, I also take time to write in a gratitude journal. I use prompts—four questions for the morning and four for the evening.
One crucial rule: no social media. Starting the day without scrolling gives you the chance to focus on yourself and your goals, rather than getting caught up in someone else’s life right from the beginning.
Reset Your Relationships
There’s nothing quite like the incredible feeling of surrounding yourself with people who genuinely bring value to your life—people who care about you and inspire you to be a better version of yourself.
These are the kind of relationships you should choose intentionally, and there’s no better time to evaluate your relationship dynamics than right now.
Think about it: if you continue holding onto a friendship with an old colleague who isn’t necessarily bad but constantly complains about their job or life, you won’t have the space to welcome someone new—a friend who could uplift your energy and brighten your days.
And if you’re still sticking with a longtime friend who you’ve grown apart from, and every conversation leaves you thinking, “Well, at least that’s not me,” you’re unknowingly missing out on meeting someone whose presence makes you think, “Wow, I wish that was me.”
As we know, what we focus on grows.
Resetting your relationships is one of the best mental detoxes you can do. It creates room for higher vibrations, meaningful connections, and a better version of yourself.
Turmeric
Ah, turmeric. I know so many people who wouldn’t go near this golden gem with a ten-foot pole. But me? I absolutely praise it. I usually get my turmeric fix in a shot (I make my own—recipe here!) or by adding a scoop to my morning greens.
Another fantastic option? Turmeric latte—it’s absolutely delicious. Or you can mix it into your smoothie for a quick and easy boost.
Now, here’s the big question: Why turmeric?
Let me tell you why. You’ve probably heard about curcumin (the active compound in turmeric) and its benefits, like influencing longevity pathways or optimizing cellular energy—basically helping your cells produce energy more efficiently.
Or maybe you’ve read about how it aids in balancing hormones like cortisol and estrogen.
While these are all amazing perks, for me, it’s the anti-inflammatory properties that really shine. Turmeric helps improve the gut-brain connection, which is a game-changer for mood regulation, mental health, and even decision-making.
Fascinating, right?
On top of that, I genuinely feel the difference—more energy, better stamina, and sharper mental clarity throughout the day.
And honestly? I just love the taste.
Mental Clutter
When it comes to mental clutter, for me, it’s all about clearing the mind through journaling, meditating, learning new skills, and putting myself in unfamiliar situations.
I’m a massive advocate for personal development, and I’ll always stand by this:
knowledge and experience are treasures no one can ever take from you.
I journal daily, meditate when it feels right, and spend most days learning something new.
I listen to podcasts, devour books, love audiobooks (you can check out my 2024 favorites here), and invest in courses.
Courses are my absolute favorite. Whether it’s a course I’m just curious about, one that helps me reach my goals, or one that helps me grow, they’re invaluable.
Why? Because they’re created by someone who has been through what you’re going through or has mastered the skill you want to improve. Investing in yourself through courses sends a clear message to the universe: I’m ready for growth.
If you’re not doing any of this yet, just start with journaling. Write every day. It doesn’t have to be elaborate—five minutes, ten minutes, even just a minute if that’s all you can manage. Whatever works for you. Trust me, you’ll start to feel the difference.
I also recommend checking out diaries with prompts to give you that extra nudge on what to write about.
We all have fears, struggles, and insecurities, but when you express them and start working through them, your body and mind will shift. You’ll feel lighter, calmer, happier, and stronger.
Final word
To wrap this up, I truly hope my routines and top mental health detox practices from the past year inspire you in some way.
If they do—or if you have your own go-to tools for mental clarity and well-being—please let me know! I’d love to hear from you and am always more than excited to try new ideas. Let’s keep growing together!
