Ever have those days where you just don’t feel like yourself? Your moods are all over the place, nothing really makes sense, emotions are running wild… Yeah, I’ve been there.
Honestly, every time this happens to me, I eventually realize I’ve been stuck in some kind of energy imbalance—either way too much in my masculine or way too much in my feminine.
That’s exactly why I’m writing this. Partly as a note to myself for those “off” days, and partly because I know I’m not the only one who goes through this.
When You Just Don’t Feel Like Yourself
First off, we all have both masculine and feminine energy.
And most of the time, we feel the best when these are (somewhat) balanced. But what happens when they’re not? What if you and your partner are both stuck in the same energy for ages? Or you’re just living in one mode and totally ignoring the other? An energy imbalance can definitely affect how you feel and how you show up in your relationships.
I once heard, “If you’re too much in your feminine, you’re not moving. But if you’re too much in your masculine, you never slow down.” That resonated with me.
When I was stuck in my masculine energy—always on the go, always in my head, to-do lists never-ending—I felt in control, but I wasn’t happy. I was tired, even though I slept enough and worked out regularly. There was no joy, just constant thinking about what’s next. No time to slow down.
Feminine energy, on the other hand, is about flow, intuition, and creativity. It’s being present, enjoying the journey (not just the destination), and connecting with your emotions. It helps you pause and reflect, to let go of the need to control every outcome.
The truth is, we will all be out of balance at times. The goal isn’t to stay perfectly balanced 24/7, but to notice when we’re off and gently come back.
How Energy Imbalance Impacts Relationships
When you or your partner are out of balance, things can get weird between you—fast.
You start misunderstanding each other, feeling unsupported, or even building up quiet resentment. Sometimes it feels like everything’s just tense and chaotic, or on the flip side, way too rigid and closed off. That energy imbalance can also mess with attraction. When there’s no spark between different energies, the relationship can start to feel kind of flat or dull, like the chemistry just fizzled out.
And honestly, it doesn’t just affect the relationship—you might notice you’re more restless or anxious in general, like something’s just “off” with you. If you’re under constant stress, that’s also going to mess with your energy, and suddenly everything else starts feeling off, too. This energy imbalance can impact your motivation and excitement, and the things that usually light you up don’t feel the same. It’s not a fun place to be, and it really can creep into every area of your life.
Is Your Birth Sign Connected to Masculine or Feminine Energy?
Yes! In astrology, every zodiac sign is linked to either masculine (active/yang) or feminine (receptive/yin) energy.
For those of you who are more into astrology, you can also look at your zodiac sign as a way to connect with these different energies.
It’s not about putting yourself in a box or deciding how you should feel—it’s simply another lens you can use to understand yourself, especially since we’re all connected to the universe in our own way. And if astrology isn’t really your thing, feel free to skip this part—I just thought it was an interesting perspective to share!
- Masculine signs: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius (outward, expressive, action-oriented)
- Feminine signs: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces (inward, intuitive, nurturing)
What Happens If You’re Out of Balance?
Excessive Masculine Energy: You might notice yourself becoming more tense, controlling, or always needing to be in charge. Emotions can get pushed aside, making it hard to feel close to others, and you may end up feeling drained or burned out from constantly pushing yourself.
-
- You become overly aggressive, controlling, or rigid.
- Emotions are suppressed, and it’s hard to connect deeply.
- Burnout from overworking and never letting yourself rest.
Excessive Feminine Energy: It can feel like you’re floating without direction, unsure of what you want or unable to make decisions. Boundaries may blur, and while your creativity flows, it’s tough to take real action, leaving you feeling tired or even taken for granted.
-
- You might feel passive, indecisive, or overly dependent.
- Boundaries blur, and you might feel drained or taken advantage of.
- Lots of creativity, but struggle to take concrete action.
Signs You Might Need More Balance: If you’re feeling stuck, anxious, or always tired, it could be a sign your energies are out of sync. Struggling to make decisions, finding it hard to relax, or feeling disconnected in relationships are all gentle reminders that a little more balance could help you feel more like yourself again.
-
- Feeling stuck, anxious, or exhausted.
- Trouble making decisions or following through (too much feminine).
- Difficulty relaxing or connecting emotionally (too much masculine).
- Relationship struggles, lack of fulfillment, or a sense something is “off.”
How To Restore Balance
If you need more masculine energy:
Set clear, authentic goals. Establish a routine (for me, it’s the gym twice a week, yoga three times a week). Visualize what you want—manifestation is actually a masculine act because you’re setting direction.
If you need more feminine energy:
Practice mindfulness, meditation, and journaling. Create moments with no distractions, just breathe and be present. Let yourself rest and create (writing, painting, cooking with no specific outcome). Listen to your intuition.
For me, the hardest part is allowing myself to rest and just be—feminine energy thrives on that, and sometimes that’s exactly what I need.
Don’t beat yourself up for leaning too much into one energy or the other—both have their own strengths. Now that you know how to recognize them, you can actually do something to bring yourself back into balance.
